The Only Hands That Can Save You

Five years ago, Elena, a resident surgeon in general surgery, married James, heir to a wealthy aristocratic family—only to face relentless contempt from his domineering mother, Victoria. When Elena fell pregnant, Victoria ordered her to terminate the pregnancy. After Elena refused, Victoria plotted in secret, causing her nineteen-week fetus to miscarry. On the night of the miscarriage, Victoria cruelly cast the frail Elena out of the household, while James stood by and watched coldly without lifting a finger. Shortly afterward, he filed for divorce, leaving Elena utterly destitute. From the depths of despair, Elena rebuilt her life under the new surname Voss, devoting herself wholeheartedly to medicine. Over the next five years, her career skyrocketed: she cracked groundbreaking surgical challenges, published numerous landmark academic papers, and pioneered proprietary surgical techniques that were later included in medical textbooks. She founded her own private clinic and research institute, earning a reputation across the Western Hemisphere as the medical field’s "last hope" for hopeless cases. It was then that Victoria was diagnosed with a high-risk brain tumor. Countless renowned specialists declared her condition untreatable—Elena was the only physician capable of saving her life. With no other options left, James called to beg for her help. Elena agreed to take the case, demanding an exorbitant consultation fee and full access to Victoria’s complete ten-year medical records. Returning to the hospital where she had once endured humiliation and harm, she successfully performed the life-saving surgery on Victoria. Immediately afterward, she laid bare the full truth in front of a crowd, presenting damning evidence including pharmacy signature logs and ICU audio recordings. The proof exposed Victoria’s long-running pattern of manipulation and persecution of pregnant women: she was not only responsible for the death of Elena’s unborn child, but had also orchestrated unexplained miscarriages among James’s former girlfriends and junior doctors under her control. In the end, Victoria was convicted and sent to prison, while the hospital owned and operated by the Ashford family underwent a full rebrand and institutional restructuring. Overwhelmed by guilt, James stepped down from his powerful position in the family conglomerate and moved to a small town to work as an ordinary general practitioner. He openly admitted his own cowardice and complicity back then, and begged Elena for forgiveness. All those broken by Victoria’s cruelty found a chance at new beginnings: the other victimized women stepped out from the shadow of their trauma and rebuilt their lives. Having let go of her resentment and desire for revenge, Elena chose to live for something greater than retribution. She established a maternal and infant safety foundation dedicated to protecting vulnerable women and expectant mothers, drawing on her own ordeal to fight systemic medical abuse. While traveling to provide free medical care for the foundation, she met Luca, a gentle and insightful photographer who treated her with unwavering respect and compassion, gradually healing the deep wounds of her past. Elena finally made peace with her painful history, breaking free from the chains of hatred to reclaim her identity. She became a healer to others—and found redemption for herself in the process.
