Lost Before I Found You

Five years into a loveless marriage, Brendan stays ice-cold—still hung up on Marissa, his old flame—and waves off every warning he'll regret it. When Evelyn is told her cancer is late-stage, she chooses herself, files for divorce, and walks. He shrugs. Then she's believed dead. Only then does he open what she left behind—her phone, diary, a wall of sticky notes—and finally see it: she'd loved him since high school, kept the house together alone, took his mother's and sister's abuse, and he never even clocked that her parents had died. The guilt floors him. He spirals, talks about ending it—until he learns she's alive. He starts atoning: a public apology, a gallery show to draw her out, home-cooked meals, even down on his knees. Work tanks; friends keep him upright. Emma, Evelyn's sister, twists the knife—lets Brendan think he's about to propose, then makes him watch Evelyn step out in a wedding dress… to marry Ethan, the gentle doctor who saved her, sheltered her, and loved her quietly for years. What begins as “pretend girlfriend” to meet his parents turns real: confession, proposal, the license signed, a wedding he plans by hand. He posts it everywhere. Evelyn refuses to see Brendan. With Ethan, everything that once hurt flips—steadiness, daily kindness, safety. In the end, she names what Ethan's patience has been all along—love—and says it back.
