AFTER WITHHOLDING MY MEDICAL EXPENSES, THE TEAM WENT BANKRUPT

Goaltender Keller helped the Chicago Blues make the playoffs and paid $15,000 out of pocket for physical therapy, but Assistant Director Linda reimbursed her only $800, citing cost overruns. General Manager Skip then publicly humiliated her and forced her to accept the offer. With Game 7 of the playoffs—a game that would determine $20 million in revenue for the team—on the line, Keller refused to play, citing a medical evaluation. With no substitute available, owner Chase stepped in to negotiate. Keller presented audio recordings and reimbursement receipts, demanding full reimbursement of her expenses, a $100,000 incentive bonus, and a written commitment to cover all future medical costs in full. Chase had no choice but to agree, and Keller took the field, leading the team to victory in Game 7 and the league championship.During the offseason, Skip deliberately arranged high-intensity training designed to injure her arm, while Linda continued to make it difficult for her to get reimbursement. Keller documented the entire process to protect her rights, resulting in restrictions on both of their authority. Having seen through the team’s true colors, Keller transferred to Liberty Athletics, leaving behind her play-calling notes to mentor the next generation as she departed. With full support from her new team, Keller won the Cy Young Award. With their star player gone, the Blues’ record plummeted and sponsors pulled out; Skip and Linda were both fired, and those who had trampled on the players’ dignity reaped what they had sown.
